National Paramedic Banding

NATIONAL PARAMEDIC BANDING

Dear member,

As you are probably aware the Department of Health, NHS Employers and ambulance unions have agreed paramedics will be re-banded nationally from band 5 to band 6.

Paramedics, whose job description is matched to the new band 6 profile, will move from a pay scale paying from circa £21,000 to £28,000 to circa £26,000 to £35,000.

New paramedics who registered after 1st September 2016 will have a maximum 2 year consolidation of a learning period at band 5 prior to moving to band 6.

In order for the process to take place and for UNISON members to be able to move on the appropriate band we need to have an agreed Paramedic Job Description. UNISON believes it has already agreed a job description with the Trust but it has been constantly held up by Dave Macklin the Director of Operations. Frustratingly there does not appear to be any reason for this apart from the fact DM hasn’t agreed it and doesn’t attend the relevant meetings.

Because of this situation UNISON urges other members of the executive team to agree the JD in order for its members to get paid the correct pay. UNISON assures all affected members that any monies owed will be backdated.
