A& E Workforce update

Dear Member,

Unison Branch met with the Trust today to further discuss the future Workforce Plan, as agreed during recent negotiations with the Trust and ACAS. Unison are conscious that we are approaching the deadline for conclusion of these negotiations as set out in the “ Way Forward”  agreement of September 2014.

Following today’s discussions, we can update members as follows.

Paramedic Banding Review.

A panel will be set up within the next 4 weeks in order to evaluate the role/s of the Paramedic. Once this is complete we will advise members of the outcome of that evaluation.

Rotas

Due to members concerns regarding the current rotas, it has been agreed to review all rotas within YAS, South and Central to be reviewed initially with a view to implementation by April 2015, although these may be implemented earlier if stations are in agreement with any proposals or recommendations. Unison Committee member’s will be arranging and attending roadshows in order to gauge staff views on any proposed rotas, in South initially followed by Central.

North and East will be reviewed shortly after with a view to possible changes, as soon as possible after this review.

Meal Breaks.

Unison raised concerns around the trusts decision to amend the recently agree meal break policy after only 6 days. The Trust stated that they stood by that decision due to concerns around patient safety. The newly instated policy is that which was in place prior to any changes made as a result of Operational Redesign.

Technicians.

The role of Technician is still under discussion with the Trust, and members will be updated as soon as possible. Unison wish to ensure that we get the best possible outcome for Technicians and it is for this reason that we are still in discussions.

New Band 4 role.

Work is currently on-going on developing the new Job description and Scope of Practice for this role. Once agreed, members will be advised of any further training requirements that may be necessary.

Band 4 Pay Protection.

Members who were down banded as a result of Operational Redesign and were then reinstated at Band 4, have questioned why they are still being paid at Band 3 for overtime and their payslips still indicate Band 3 with protection.

This has been raised again today and the Trust has stated that appropriate departments had been informed and that this should have been addressed. Unison advised the Trust that this does not appear to have been implemented. The Trust agreed to resolve this issue today, with a view to members receiving any back pay due to them in their December Salary.

Annual Leave

The Trust have confirmed that there is currently no block on Annual Leave , and that the criteria for booking of leave is 20%, per station, and not as CBU.

Unison wish to advise members that we are continually trying to negotiate the best outcome we possibly can for you, our members with regards the current negotiations, and will continue to do so.
