SUSPENSION OF A&E INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Dear Member
After extensive discussions with the Trust which concluded today UNISON Yorkshire Ambulance Branch can confirm that the employers have agreed to revert back to all policies within the workforce plan, A&E operational redesign and any policies subsequently agreed with UNISON. This means that the UNISON members mandate has been upheld and the views of UNISON members have been heard.
Even though this is a victory for UNISON, the Branch committee wish to make it clear to members that UNISON has only suspended the industrial action, this is due to the lack of trust that members have in management due to their recent history of not abiding by agreements.
In order to ensure that any agreements surrounding the mandates put forward to the trust are adhered to, UNISON will have any agreement passed through ACAS. This will ensure that the agreements are as legally binding as possible.
This is a massive victory for UNISON members, not only has it shown how high the strength of feeling amongst them is, it has also been a massive wake up call to managers showing that UNISON members have had enough, that they are not willing to be pushed around anymore.
We appreciate that whilst some members will see this as a victory others, whilst recognising the outcome, will have been preparing to show the trust the level of feeling out there by taking action and as such may be disappointed.
The Branch Committee would like to reiterate that the industrial action is currently only suspended.
UNISON also raised members other concerns around rotas, general career progression, annual leave, overtime levels etc. The Trust has agreed to review these issues with UNISON, both sides have acknowledged time constraints and will meet urgently to prioritise the issues.
The reintroduction of the urgent tier is a main priority and UNISON with shortly be entering into negotiations with the trust to agree a way forward. It was agreed that the use of St Johns will cease as soon as the urgent tier is fully up and running and will only be used for green 3&4 calls within this short interim period. UNISON will keep members informed of any developments and will be arranging further meetings with members.
Once again, this position has only been achieved because UNISON members have stuck together and shown their strength please be advised that the industrial action is currently only suspended, if the Trust does not stick to the current position it will still take place.
