UNISON NEWS
PTS MEAL BREAKS
The branch is still waiting for a response from the solicitors regarding the test case, the solicitors have all the relevant information including contracts and agreements. UNISON is fully aware this process has been a long drawn out affair and will keep you informed of any developments. UNISON is also looking at suitable dates in September to rearrange the PTS Seminar.
OPERATIONAL REDESIGN
UNISON YAS Branch is urging the Trust to review many aspects of the recent changes. UNISON members are reporting that rather than having the desired effect of reducing end of shift overtime, reducing late meal breaks, increasing performance and creating better overall cover, the exact opposite has happened.
It appears obvious to UNISON and its members that the 5&3 model is not working because it is inflexible, the shift changes have not improved anything and many members are insisting that individual station rotas need to be reviewed. UNISON is pushing for the reintroduction of a band 4 role on front line A&E vehicles and the reintroduction of an AES role within YAS. UNISON is also insisting that the Trust adheres to the current agreements and doesn’t implement knee jerk changes which will negatively impact on their members.
UNISON members have also raised a formal grievance around the levels of end of shift overtime. UNISON believes the levels are excessive and need reducing but are arguing that enforced EOS overtime should become contractual because members can evidence regular payments over the past few months. UNISON is committed to reducing the levels of overtime forced on members but is fighting for the payment to be made if members are on leave or off sick. Creating a greater cost implication may be the only way we get the Trust to actively reduce the soaring overtime levels, we will keep you informed of any developments.
Tour de France
UNISON supports this prestigious sporting race in Yorkshire and broadly understands the rationale behind the Trust’s requirements for extra staff and the potential for working practices to differ from normal, especially within stations on and near the actual route.
