Operational Redesign Up-date 10

Following the branch committee meeting today and feedback from members, representatives of UNISON Yorkshire Ambulance branch met with the Trust this afternoon to discuss the timescale for implementation of the rotas.

After lengthy discussions the following processes and timescales have been agreed, every UNISON member working within A&E Operations will know exactly what station, rota and line by the 17th January and there will be no enforced staff movement if members hold a substantive rota line.

If the Trust does not achieve this by the 17th January UNISON has insisted that any implementation would have to be postponed until after the 1st April.

If the timescale is achieved and every member is fully aware of how the changes will affect them as an individual we will start the ballot on the 17th January for members to decide whether to accept or reject the operational redesign package including all relevant policy and procedures.

It was also agreed that rather than all the rotas being implemented on the 3rd February there will  now be a phased implementation between the 3rd and the 17th February.

Please be aware the rotas within the package are simply the shifts that are needed, members are encouraged to change them around and agree at station level.

UNISON also understands that certain managers are advising staff that the Rotas that were issued on Monday are 'UNISON' Rotas, we would like to advise members that this is incorrect, we have assisted the trust in developing alternative rotas to the PE Rotas which would have resulted in mass staff movement that. UNISON acknowledges that some FRV rota’s have been changed from 10hr shifts to 12hr shifts, it is envisaged that some of the FRV rotas will be similar to the 10hr DMA rotas with the 12hr at the weekend option.

The annual leave/relief options within the rota will be decided on a station/rota basis, UNISON understands many members do not want annual leave in the rota and prefer the relief option. It is down to members to decide but a mixture of relief and annual leave within one rota will not work so it has to go on a majority vote.

UNISON also proposed a self-managed rota to members during the consultation period, many members were interested in the concept so it has been agreed to work on the guidelines and then possibly offer the idea to members later in the year.
