NQP/Paramedic Grievance

NQP/Paramedic Grievance

After a very successful meeting with our NQP/Paramedic members last night, UNISON would like inform our members of the current status of the grievance that UNISON put forward on behalf of our members.

As always it was only UNISON that stepped up to take our members issues forward. The grievance that was submitted caused a stir nationally and was also mirrored by our UNISON colleagues in other Ambulance Trusts.

The Trust has partially answered the grievance, which has been split into 3 sections, following the national process, of which the answers are outlined below.

Part one – requirement to resolve grievance

Pay Paramedics registered prior to September 1st 2016 at the appropriate band 6 rate.

Part one - Grievance answer

The Trust will move all paramedics registered and working for the trust prior to September 2016 to band 6, with back pay in October wages.

Part two – requirement to resolve grievance

Paramedics registered and working for the Trust between September 1st 2016 and March 31st 2017 to be moved to band 6 on their first anniversary date.

Part two - Grievance answer

NQP’s registered and working for the Trust between September 1st 2016 and March 31st 2017 will be moved to band 6 on their first anniversary date.

From a grievance point a view, these two issues can now be classed as resolved; however UNISON still has an issue with the third part of the grievance, which is shown below.

Part Three – requirement to resolve grievance

Move all NQP’s registered between April 1st 2017 and August 31st 2017 to be moved to band 6 on their 1st year anniversary

Part Three - Grievance answer

The Trust does not wish to step away from the national process, which currently only cover members up to the end of March 2017. The Trust has requested an extension of time limits to discuss this group of staff, mainly around funding and the national stance.

UNISONs response to failings in part 3 of grievance

UNISON is pleased that positive action has been taken by the Trust to quickly resolve two thirds of this grievance for a good number of our members, however UNISON feels that to agree to extend the process for NQPs in the third part, would just rub salt into the wound of this group of members who have already been waiting long enough. As such UNISON has rejected this request and will now pursue this part of the grievance (the other two parts being accepted and resolved) through the appeals process in order to try and get an acceptable resolution.

UNISON also understands that as always with these sort of changes anomalies will arise, please do not hesitate to contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for information and support.
