End of shift overtime

End of shift overtime

UNISON is in discussions with the Trust about ways of reducing end of shift overtime which we know is a priority for many of our members.  ideas discussed so far are –

  • restriction on hospital transfers in the last hour of shift;

  • altering automatic vehicle allocation so that any vehicle within the target response time can be allocated to a incident, not just the nearest - this would allow a vehicle that has longer left on shift can be sent to an incident rather than automatically the nearest crew if they are close to finish time,

  • limiting the categories of incidents a crew close to their finish time can be allocated whilst taking into account the time of travel to base.

  • defining a handover procedure so that starting crews could take over patients from finishing crews if there are long hospital waits delaying shift finish.

No agreements have been made as yet, we are still in discussion with the Trust.  If you have any views on any of these ideas or any suggestions please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
